Jesus in my Tummy

This morning, when we were leaving for nursery school, I asked if I could take Baggins with me, but Daddy said "No". So I asked who could come with me to nursery and Daddy said that God is always with me - "Yes," I said, "Jesus is in my tummy".

Daddy laughed.

"Who is in your tummy Daddy?" I asked. Daddy said that no-one was in his tummy. "That's OK," I said, "I will buy you a Jesus at the shops."

Daddy laughed again...

Sports Day 25 Oct

It's taken Mommy ages to get this video clip done, but better late than never.

She's busy doing the one of the concert from this weekend, but because she's very sick, I don't know when she will finish it. I've told her she has to go to the doctor, and I help her take her medicine, so that she will get all better, but I think it's the baby in her tummy that is making her so sick. Last night she couldn't even bath me she was so sick!

School photos

Who's a cutie??

Mommy hates her phone. She says it takes horrible pictures. I still love looking at them though - I especially love looking at the photos of me!!

Just like Mommy

Last night I was eating my supper in front of the TV... or rather, I wasn't eating. I was watching 'Lady and the Tramp', which is my current favourite movie. It was the scary bit where the nasty rat is trying to bite Tramp, while he tries to protect the baby. I was too entranced to eat.

Mommy and Daddy tried nagging me to eat, then switching the TV off, but nothing worked. So Mommy decided to stand between me and the TV, so I could hear it, but not see it. I tried to peer around her, but she kept moving. I got very annoyed. But I suppose it worked, because unless I ate, Mommy would stand between me and the TV.

A few minutes later, it was Mommy's turn to eat. She joined me in the lounge, and ate while we both watched TV. When I noticed she was eating, I immediately jumped up and went and stood in front of the TV with my arms stretched out. "No, Mommy. No TV unless you eat ALL your supper up." I don't understand why Mommy and Daddy found that so funny...

Drawings

Yes - it has finally happened! I have managed to co-ordinate my hands and fingers and draw circles - sort of. I'm so proud of myself! LOOK...

Weather reports

On Thursday, when we went to nursery, it was drizzling. "Oh no! It's such a rainy day!"

This afternoon, I was sitting with Mom in the garden. "It's too hot. You must sit here, Mom, in the cool, and you must put your hat on."

This evening, on the news, I was watching the people playing in the snow along the coastal mountains. "Look, Mom! SNOW! That man is walking in the SNOW!" I was so excited I was bouncing.

There's such a lot of weather! I wonder what the weather will do tomorrow?

Naughty girl

I'm learning to draw. It's great fun! On Saturday I played in Mommy's car, and I found a pen. It was lots of fun drawing on myself - I had snails and all sorts of things all over my face, arms and legs. When Mommy came to find me, she thought it was very funny. Then she saw that when I'd run out of space on my arms, I'd started drawing on the door. She didn't think that was very funny. She was very annoyed. Daddy gave me a smack on my hand. I cried. I refused to say sorry to either Mommy or Daddy, because I had drawn them such a pretty picture and they didn't even say how wonderful it was!

This evening I was playing in Mommy's car again. I found the pen again.... hee hee! This time it was Daddy who was cross with me and he smacked me very hard on my hand. I cried a lot!

Mommy hasn't washed the drawing off the door yet. She says it's a priceless work of art that she wants to treasure for a while. Silly Mommy!

Baking done.... baking here... baking gone.... the only evidence for its existence is...

Dare Devil

A few weekends ago Daddy, Mommy and I went for a walk on the mountain again - to see the waterfalls and play in the puddles again. As we walked I saw this really nice cliff and asked Mommy to help me climb it. I think one day I'm going to be a mountain climber...

Out the mouth...

Last night I got to have 2 baths. It wasn't fun. I had my normal bath and went to bed, but then woke up a bit later and vomited all over everything. By the time that Daddy got into the room, I was sitting in a puddle of vomit and it had messed over the edge of the bed onto the carpet too. It was even in my hair! So Mommy made me take another bath. I wasn't too happy about it, but afterwards I got to cuddle with Mommy, Daddy and Leo in Mommy and Daddy's bed. That was nice.

Today I felt much better, although I was very tired all day.

In fact, I felt so much better I sang songs all day. "Winnie-a-poo, Winnie-a-poo, tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff he's Winnie-a-poo, Winnie-a-poo, la la la la silly old bear!

Terrors and teenagers

This morning I woke up from a nightmare screaming. There was this horrible DINOSAUR and he GOT me and he started to EAT me!!!!! I cried for ages after Daddy and Mommmy came to save me.

Yesterday we went to visit Granny, and I had a lovely time lazing around the garden on Granny's lounger. The weather was lovely and sunny so I took my book outside and was lying reading it on the lounger. [She's nearly three going on 13! Ed] Then Mommy brought me some chips and juice. After I had eaten my snack, I turned the lounger over and made it a little house, and played in the house for ages..... nearly the entire rugby match!

Sunday 3 August 2008

Army up my sleevey

When I cough, Mommy used to tell me to cough into my hand. Then my teacher told her not to. Instead, Mommy now tells me to cough into my sleeve. Usually, I put my elbow up to my mouth and cough into my sleeve. Today, just to be funny, when Mommy told me to cough into my sleeve, I poked my mouth down inside my sleeve... like my arm! Mommy and Daddy nearly had an accident (in the car as we were driving) they laughed so hard! I like making them laugh!

All growing up

Yesterday at supper time, Mommy made me pizza. When she put it on the table, she had already cut it into smaller pieces for me. I was so thrilled, I said: 'Thanks Mom. You're so clever!' Mommy was as pleased as punch. I know, because she got this big grin on her face and her eyes got all squidgy.

Snow!

[Ed - I'm really sorry... It kept loading photos sideways, although they'd never been taken sideways, and now I see it's loaded the video sideways too... I really don't know why it's being so difficult today. Anyway, at least one photo has come out correctly, and at least you can see the video if you turn your head!]

Today Mommy took me and my cousins to see the snow at Ceres! It was great! We had a lot of fun - although it was very cold, and my nose got wet. I don't like getting wet. I really don't like getting wet. After about 45 minutes I'd had enough of having a cold, wet nose, so I told Mommy I wanted to go home.
I didn't like anyone throwing snowballs at me - I don't like getting wet! But it was fun to throw them at other people!

Monday 7 July 2008

Fishies at the Kwarium

Today Mommy took me and my cousins Jemma, Gabi and Julia to the Kwarium to see the Fishies! It's been raining ALL weekend, and it was raining AGAIN today, so it was nice to be able to go out cos I was getting very bored at home. Daddy stayed at home cos he was vomiting. Poor Daddy!

I got to see the Nemo and Dory fishies, and the big eel, and the penguins! This one was having a bath, and he came very close to us, and then SPLASHED ME!
There was also a puppet show, with an eel who ate an octopus, and a shark who ate a fishie. It was fun! We also saw divers in the shark tank. They didn't wave at me because they were too busy watching the sharks and making sure the sharks didn't eat them.

After the Kwarium, we went shopping and Mommy bought me some proper puzzles. Yesterday I managed to do my first proper puzzle all by myself. Well, actually, I've been doing them at nursery, but Mommy and Daddy only saw me do one for the first time yesterday. The ones we have at home have only got 2 pieces to them, so Mommy decided to get me some 4 piece puzzles. I haven't done them yet - I'll try tomorrow.

After buying puzzles we went out for lunch. I got to have a pizza all to myself [only a large slice, actually, but she ate very well and polished off about 2/3 of the slice!, Ed] AND THEN we got to have icecream afterwards [Frozen yoghurt, actually] with chocolate in it. Mommy kept trying to steal my chocolate! [I did not. I was trying to help her find it, cos it was in between two layers of frozen yoghurt, Ed.]

Here I am with Julia. It's raining, again. I was very tired here, so Julia was holding my hood on because I was too tired to do it myself, and the wind was blowing it off so I was getting wet. I don't like getting wet from the rain.
[Note from Ed: She was such an angel today! Even though she missed her morning nap, she didn't whine, or cry, or have a tantrum. I was so proud of her! Back in the car, it took her all of 3 mins to fall asleep - if I hadn't been driving I would have taken a photo of her she was so cute!]

Daddy's cold

Daddy was lying on the couch tonight, feeling very sick. He was shivering, so I asked if he was OK, and he said he was cold. So I went to ask Mommy to help me get a blanket. She thought I was cold, so she brought me one of my little blankets. I asked her to put it on Daddy instead.

Daddy was still cold, so I asked Mommy for another blanket for him, so then she went to get a big blanket. I asked her to put it on Daddy, which she did. But Daddy was still cold, so then I went and got all our coats that were hanging on the backs of the dining room chairs and I put them on Daddy. But he was still cold, so then I took everything I could find to put on Daddy - our shoes, DVDs, books, the TV remotes, everything off the coffee table.... Mommy came into the room again, and when she saw what I was doing she just wanted to hug me, but she didn't understand that I couldn't stop because I was BUSY HELPING DADDY cos he was cold.

So then Mommy went to get ANOTHER big blanket [actually, a double duvet this time, Ed]. Before she could put that on Daddy, she had to take off all the other things I'd put on. Because I'd gone out of the room to find more stuff to put on Daddy to help him feel warm, I wasn't there when she started taking things off. When I came back into the room, she was taking all these things off Daddy, and I got cross because - didn't she realise? - Daddy was getting COLDER!! But she wasn't listening to me, so I got even more frustrated, and so I sat down and cried.

But then Mommy gave me a cuddle and explained why she had taken everything off Daddy, and once she'd put the duvet on, I got to help her put the jackets back on Daddy's feet. And then I felt better. Poor Daddy. He's very cold tonight!

Party fun

Naming

About a week ago, Mommy and I were driving in the car, on the way home from Grandma and Tata's house. We often talk in the car, about nursery, about things we see. Mommy started to tell me that everyone has at least 2 names, and that I have another name. I got a bit upset about that - I'm Janel. I don't want another name!

My name is Janel, I told Mommy. Yes, Mommy said, but your real name is Janel B-M. NO! I said. It's just Janel. Ok, said Mommy. I don't WANT another name... I just want to be Janel. I got quite upset with Mommy telling me that I had another name.

Then Mommy asked me who 'My Munchkin' was. Me, I replied. And who is Nellie Noepie? Me. And who is Baby Girl? Me. You have lots of names, Mommy said. Hmm.... I had to think about that one.

A few days ago, on the way to nursery, Mommy asked me again about my other names. I'd been thinking about what she said, that I already have a lot of names. I wasn't so upset anymore about having another name. But I can't really say my other name - it's long. Mommy says it's a mouthful.

Then, yesterday, on the way to nursery I turned to Mommy and said my other name out loud, to check that I had got it right - and Mommy didn't understand what I was saying! But after a few tries and questions, she figured it out. She was so proud of me! Sometimes Mommy is weird.

More photos

Two weekends ago Mommy and Daddy took me to the beach. It was a very cold day, but we had such fun chasing the waves and building castles. I even fell in the water! Good thing Mommy had put my waterproof dungarees and my coat on - I got a big wet patch on my jersey, but at least I was mostly dry. Today was the last day of term, which doesn't mean much since nursery doesn't close for the school holidays. But because it was the last day, my class got to dress up as an insect. I went as a stripey butterfly. You can just see my wings in this photo. It was great dressing up - I was very proud of my wings and all day long I kept telling people I was a butterfly!

Photos

It's been ages since Mommy put some photos of me up.

This was taken at Place of Play while my cousin Jessica was visiting us from Spain at the beginning of May. (Notice Leo in the back, Ed.)These are all taken at Butterfly World. This is a Duiker (smallest buck in SA, I think Mommy said).
Here I am trying to smile. And this is a little monkey that nearly came to sit on my shoulder until a nasty man who worked there stopped it.
During May it was also another of my cousin's birthday. I spent ages blowing this whistle toy.

Broken

This morning I broke my first glass... I was playing with the candles while I was standing on the toilet brushing my teeth. I stand on the toilet so I can see myself in the mirror. The candles were on a shelf next to the toilet. They are all in glasses. I was moving them into the right order, and one fell off the shelf.

Mommy was very cross at first, then she got even more mad when I tried to finish putting the others into the right order. I don't like it when Mommy gets mad, so I cried. I didn't mean to break it! Then Mommy stopped being cross and gave me a big cuddle.

After the cuddle I tried to help Mommy clean up, but she wouldn't let me help her. I don't understand why, so I cried again.

Mommy said the reason I was crying so much was cos I didn't sleep well last night. I'm sick, you see, and I keep waking up crying. I've been sick for AGES now. Last night, though, when I woke up coughing, I did a poo in my nappy, so I got up to tell Mommy. When I came out of my room there were all these people in our house! Mommy said once my nappy was changed I could stay up with them a little bit cos they were going to sing & she didn't think I'd go back to sleep with all the noise. So this morning I was very tired and didn't want to get up.

Daddy took me to the doctor this afternoon, to see what he thought about my coughing. The doctor listened to my chest and my back with a big, cold thing. Then he looked in my ears and took my temperature with a 'beep-beep' like we have at home [digital thermometer, Ed]. He also looked in my mouth. Daddy said I was very brave cos I didn't cry.

The doctor said that it looked like I had had an infection, but it was getting better all by itself. Mommy was pleased that I wouldn't have to take antibiotics. I don't know why - I like taking medicine! Not like Mommy. Mommy HATES taking medicine. I know: she won't take her medicine and Daddy gets very cross with her all the time!

Rainy days

The other weekend it had been raining, so Mommy and I went out in the rain (being very British). Then, when it stopped raining we went and jumped in the puddles. I got SOAKED and my boots were so full of water they were sloshing as I walked home. I had a lot of fun though!!

Because YouTube has decided that the video of me is either pornographic/ racist/ profane/ illegal, they have disabled it. So you'll have to click on this link to take you to 'Electronic Files', where Mommy has uploaded the video again. I hope it works, cos I think I'm very cute in this one. Watch out for when I tell Mommy to give me the camera so I can film her jumping in the puddle!

Insects

Today I fell while running and hit my lip, and now it is all swollen and sore. It's sore to eat and talk. Although it's sore, I think it's quite funny, so I keep laughing and then saying 'Sorry!' Mom and Dad think I'm too cute for words, so I keep doing it - got to keep them entertained.

The best part of my day today was having a family cuddle. Mom was sitting on the ball [Exercise ball, Ed], I was on her lap and Dad cuddled us both. It was so much fun I couldn't help but call out - 'Hip, hip, hooray!'

I also have a new favourite movie. For the last two months or so 'A Bug's Life' has been my favourite, but I'm moving onto 'Antz' now (we have both on video), except I call it 'Insects'. We're learning all about insects at nursery. Today, for our baking, we made Spiders using Marie Biscuits. All the way home I kept singing 'Incy, Wincy Spider'. On the last day of term, we get to dress up as an insect. I'm not sure what I want to go as... but I need to decide soon because Mom has to make me a costume.

Maybe I'll go as a Butterfly. We went to Butterfly World a few weekends ago. Although the butterflies were nice, the best part was seeing the Blue Duiker and the monkeys because they stood still and let me look at them. The butterflies wouldn't sit still, and I wasn't allowed to touch them either.

Art work

Here is some of my recent art work - Leo the yellow lion as strong as iron, and some flowers and a bee. We're doing insects at nursery this term.

Look who's talking

Everyone has been saying how much I've been talking recently. I don't think it's that I'm talking more, but maybe it's that suddenly I am able to express what's going on in my head. Sometimes I really struggle with that. There's so much I want to say, but I just can't seem to find the right words, or get it out of my mouth, and then I get very frustrated. Mommy is very good at asking me questions to help me express what I want to say, but even she has trouble understanding me sometimes.

Like today. We drove in the car to go and help some people who were in trouble [victims of the xenophobic attacks. Ed]. As we were leaving again, I saw something on the ground. I asked Mommy what it was, and she said it was a type of leaf, and that it had died.

Last weekend I had watched 'The Princess Bride' with Mommy and Daddy, and there's a scene where the Man in Black is lying 'mostly dead' on a table. I kept asking Mommy and Daddy why he was lying on the table, and they kept saying he was 'mostly dead'. I didn't understand, so I kept asking why he was dead.

So when I saw the dead leaf today, it reminded me of the Man in Black on the table. Since I still don't understand what 'dead' or 'mostly dead' mean, I'm still confused by that scene, so I started asking Mommy about it again.

She got very confused, because she didn't know what table, or man, I meant, and I couldn't explain to her that I meant the man from The Princess Bride, because I didn't know what the movie was called. After quite a long time though, Mommy did figure it out, but by then I was bored of that topic, so I'd moved on to talk about the trucks going past us and traffic lights letting us all take turns at crossing the road.

It's very frustrating being little!

Monday 12 May 2008

Two milestones in one day

This afternoon Mommy came to fetch me from nursery. When she arrived I was riding a motorbike (just a toy one you push with your feet) around the playground. I was happy to see her, but while she wanted to leave I still wanted to play. I told Mommy, "I'm not going home!" She was very surprised by this, because usually I can't wait to go home, but I was having such a lot of fun!

Then, on the way home, I was asking Mommy about the people we were walking past. I kept asking Mommy, "What is that?" until she eventually told me that when we ask questions about people we say 'who' not 'what'. I think that's very odd. When we were in the shop, I asked, 'Who is that?" and Mommy got so excited that I think it must be a very big deal to say 'who' instead of 'what'. I'm not sure I understand why, but if it makes Mommy happy I'll try it again.

Eat, play, sleep...

Playing with Daddy on the train at our nearest park. I like driving the train!

Playing at Grandma's house, with the dolls' house. There's a Mommy dolly with yellow hair and a pony tail just like my Mommy's hair. I spent the WHOLE night there on Saturday cos Mommy and Daddy went to a party.

Me, Leo and Riley-Puppy - we're sleeping. Riley-Puppy is Oupa and Ouma's dog. He likes to jump up on me. Then I tell him, "NO, Riley! DOWN!". Sometimes he likes to chase me, and I like to chase him, but I don't like his claws cos he scratches me when he jumps up on me.

Friday 2 May 2008

Kids say the cutest things....

Today, I had just done a wee on the toilet, and then Daddy did a wee. I've just started noticing that boys and girls look different.

"Daddy, you have a penis," I said.
"That's right," said Daddy.
"And I have a fanny."
"That's right."

Then I ran through to the bedroom where Mommy was still having an afternoon nap.

"MOMMY! Daddy has a penis, I have a fanny and you have a big bottom!"

I don't understand why Mommy and Daddy found that so funny, but they laughed for ages and ages.

Monday 28 April 2008

Crocodiles at La Bonheur, Franschhoek

Mommy and Daddy took me to see the crocodiles. I called them dinosaurs cos they look like it. Here's Daddy with me walking with the babies. These ones are under 2 years old. They were more scared of us than we were of them. Mommy didn't want Daddy to take me in. I think she was scared that I would want to walk and that the crocodiles might think I was food, but I was very good. These are the big ones, and they're only 3-4 years old. Did you know that crocodiles don't eat at all in winter because they don't have a high enough body temperature to digest food, and that they can go for 2 YEARS between meals?? The man who told us all about them said that when you see them catching a buck, that will be the only meal they eat in several months, if not for the entire year. Imagine - no snacks at all for an entire year!
These funny crocodiles are Stumpy and Lumpy. They were born without tails. Since crocodiles only use their tails for swimming (and not their legs) they would drown if they went into the water too deeply. In nature, when their mother released them into the water they would drown.
While I enjoyed visiting the crocodiles, I enjoyed seeing the other animals at the farm more. There were goats and a big black pig, as well as a tortoise that was nearly as big as me!

More videos

Here are several videos from the last month or so that Mommy has FINALLY got onto the pooter.

Here's our trip to Kirstenbosch - with us rolling down the hill.

Then here are two videos of me singing. Mommy loves it when I sing.

And here's that video of me and Jess on the trampoline from last weekend. I'm really good at jumping now. Jess is only just learning cos she's still little.

Sickness and sunshine

It's been so long since Mommy posted something about my life. That's because I've been very sick (so haven't done very much) and because Mommy is very busy at work.

I was sick for about a week with a very, very bad cold. I was so sick I didn't want to play with any of my toys. I didn't want to go to the park, or even swing on my swing at home. I didn't want to visit my granny, grandma or oupa. I didn't want to sleep, or eat. I was very, very miserable. So Mommy let me lie on the couch with a blanket and watch DVDs. I watched Ice Age. I love Ice Age. I watched it a lot. ["A lot" means what felt like 10 times back to back every day for an entire week. So much so that she, at age 2.5, now knows the entire script - if not word perfect, pretty near enough! Ed]

A little while ago Mommy and Daddy had a party and lots of people came. All my cousins came, and we had great fun playing. I'm a little bit scared of one of them, cos she's bigger than me and bosses me around, but I like having my friends to play. Mommy and Daddy also had a lot of friends who have children, so there were lots of children that I don't know. Mommy said I was very good at sharing my toys, and that she was very proud of me. I like making Mommy happy.

Last weekend we had MORE people come to visit. There was a little boy, Samuel, who came to play with me. I think his Mommy and Daddy are friends with my Mommy and Daddy. He also had a bath with me and we had great fun playing together. I got to race him on my bike up and down the driveway. Then the next day we went to Granny's house and Jessica was there. She's another cousin (I have a LOT of cousins)[she's not actually a cousin, but the family relationship is too complicated to explain to a 2yr old, so cousin will do, Ed]. She lives very far away [Spain. Ed] and is here on holiday. She's younger than me, but she's as big as me., and she can't talk yet. Mommy says that's because she's learning two languages at the same time. I don't know what a language is, but I don't mind that she can't talk cos it means I can talk a lot.

Jessica was lonely, so she came to play with me. We played together in the new fountain that Granny's got. I liked playing with her, but I didn't like sharing my toys that are at Granny's house. I got to show Jessica around the garden and we got to chase the pheasants that Granny feeds. That was a lot of fun, cos Schatzi the Dog chased us too!

This week I got to go to Monkeynastics. It's the first time I've ever been to Monkeynastics. I was so scared that I burst into tears, then the lady gave me a sticker and a T-shirt. [Monkeynastics is an age appropriate movement and music class for kids from 2yrs to 12 yrs. They come to the nursery once a week for a half hour class.] Big Kim sat with me for the whole session so that I wouldn't cry, and I got to watch the class. Maybe next week I'll join in.

Mommy and Daddy bought me a trampoline - a BIG one [only an 8ft one, but big enough that we can jump with her]. Today Jessica came to play at my house and we both jumped on the trampoline. Then we raced bikes on the driveway. We had supper together, and a bath together. I really liked playing with Jessica, except when she stole my Mommy [stole Mommy's attention would be closer to the truth, Ed]. Then I didn't like her at all and I cried, but that wasn't very often, so I still like her. I even let her borrow some of my clothes when she got hers all wet when we were watering Mommy's plants. I'm going to play with her again next week, and maybe next weekend too. I'm looking forward to that.

Mommy took a video of us jumping on the trampoline. If she has time tomorrow maybe she'll post it so you can see us. Here are some photos of me though, in the meantime...

This is how I travel to nursery most days. I like riding on the bike, except that I don't like it when the wind blows in my face too much. This is me and Mommy inside a fish tank at the kwarim [aquarium]. [The tank was built over a little tunnel that had a spyhole inside the tank, Ed.] The fish were Nemo fish, and when we were inside the tank they could swim right around us and over us. They were hungry and were looking for food. We had a lot of fun at the kwarim - we saw sharks and a turtle and a fish with wings that flew [a ray, Ed.]. But best of all I liked the Nemo fish.

Cousins come to play

Yesterday my cousins came to play. We had great fun, and Mommy said I played nicely and shared my toys nicely!

Tuesday 25 March 2008

Old videos

Mommy has finally sorted out some of the videos she took of me last year. I like this one - everyone is laughing and I'm having lots of fun.

Monday 24 March 2008

Darth Vader lives!

As long as Leo is with me, who needs The Force?!

Friday 21 March 2008

Kirstenbosch

Not only did we have fun rolling down the hillside, but we also got to see the gorillas near Lady Anne Barnard's bath, and the monkeys at the shop. AND we bought a plant for Zoe.

Trampoline video

Yay! Mommy finally bought the software to change the videos of me on her phone to something that the web can use.

This is me at my cousin's party last week... jumping on the trampoline. It took me nearly 2 hours to be brave enough not to worry about the other children. At nursery we're only allowed to jump one at a time! I like this trampoline, cos it's so low to the ground that I can get on and off by myself.

Mommy says she's sorry that the video has got itself turned around... she doesn't know why that's happened.

Sunday 16 March 2008

It's not funny!

Tonight, as we were eating supper, I decided to feed Mommy. 'Eat your supper or no TV,' I said to Mommy. She and Daddy thought it was very funny. They laughed the most when I said: 'Last spoon'. They laughed so much Mommy cried, and nearly choked on her food. I didn't think it was that funny, but the more I said, 'It's not funny!', the more they laughed.

I've had a nice weekend - I spent the WHOLE night at Oupa and Ouma's house, and we went out for supper with my cousin Jemma. Mommy and Daddy only came to pick me up this morning, when we all had breakfast together. After Easter I get to spend a whole WEEKEND with Ouma and Oupa cos Mommy and Daddy are going away. That'll be fun!

Oh yes! While we were having breakfast at Oupa and Ouma's house this morning, I took myself to the toilet, managed to pull down my own pants, and I did a poo, ALL BY MYSELF! Mommy and Daddy say I'm the cleverest girl in the whole world!

Miss Polly's dolly

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.
She called for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick.
The doctor came with his bad and his hat,
and he knocked at the door with a rat-ta-tat-tat.

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head.
He said to Miss Polly: Put her straight to bed.
He wrote on the paper for a pill, pill, pill.
I'll be back in the morning for my bill, bill, bill.

I've been sick, sick, sick with a tummy bug. Yuck! But I'm better now! Yay!!

That's a good idea!

Mommy and Daddy went looking at houses to buy today. They didn't take me with them. I went to play with Granny instead. I had fun at Granny's house. Then, on the way home, Mommy and Daddy were talking about a house they'd seen. It was on a busy road. They liked the house, but not the busy road. I was a bit confused, so I asked Mommy about it.

"Mommy? Why are you talking about roads?"

"Do you mean, why are we talking about busy roads, Nellie?"

"Mmm."

"Because I don't want to live on a road where there are lots of cars. If there are lots of cars, and you run out into the road, then a car will hit you and make you VERY sore. I want to live on a quiet road where you can ride your bike in the road and not get hurt by cars."

"That's a good idea!"

Then Mommy and Daddy laughed. I'm not sure why. I think they were laughing at me, but it wasn't nasty laughing. I know because they were both smiling nicely at me.

No really, I can!

Yesterday Mommy and I were sitting outside on the back patio having some food. I was drinking my Oros drink when I noticed something. I turned to Mommy and said, 'Look Mommy, there's a 'R' for roar!', and then I roared like a lion. Mommy got a big fright, but then gave me a high five because I'd seen the R for roar.

Party fun

We had a party at nursery for all the children and their parents. Debbie let us swim in her pool, and she hired a bouncy castle. It was strange going to nursery on a Sunday, and seeing all the children with their parents. I had fun on the bouncy castle though - Mommy says my jumping is much better. I jumped with Jehari and Matthew. Then I fell off, and graxed my knee. It was bleeding, so Teacher Debbie put a plaster on it. The plaster had a turtle and a worm on it.

I can read!

Here I am ... reading and writing. Mommy gave me a special stencil and I can already read the T, R and Z, as well as the 4. Who's a clever girl then?

Things I like to do

I like watching TV. I love it SO much. I also like baking with Mommy. Here we are making biscuits. I got to mix. I like mixing. I also got to cut out the biscuits. I made a man, and a Christmas tree and a star.

Horsing around 2

At a beach birthday party at Fish Hoek. I loved the trains that roared past the beach every few minutes! Putting on cream is a very important part of my day. Playing in Ouma's garden, on her new bridge that Oupa built, trying to catch the fish I helped Oupa catch and making tea from the pond water.
Two dummies! Going to work - see my bag and my keys, and my hat.
On a trip to Andre's Farm.

Horsing around 1

Feeling sick on Christmas day - NOT IN THE MOOD for playing games!Visiting my cousins on their farm... the Christmas elf was NOT IN THE MOOD (not surprisingly, given that I was sick)
Back home and feeling fine! Yippee! Slide! Whee!

Holidays and new things

We went away on holiday to Willow Point. It is Grandma’s house. It has a lake, with a jetty and a raft. Tata also put up a swing for me. There’s a big lawn where I could ride my bike.
There were lots of people staying with us - Rob (who is my uncle), with his girlfriend Gina, Phil and Brenda (who are my uncle and aunt), Grandma and Tata, and then lots of other friends, and Sheba (the dog). There were also lots of mosquitoes. I learnt that mosquitoes bite me and make me very itchy. Then Mommy has to put itchy cream on the spot, or hold it tight for me, so I don’t scratch. When I scratch it bleeds and is very sore.

I fell down a flight of stairs at Thane and Ruth’s house (my other uncle and aunt). I had a horrible bruise next to my eye where I landed on the step. I also had a bruise on my leg from rolling down the stairs. I also fell into the pool there. Ruth had put bubbles into the pool and there were lots of bubbles, so I didn’t see the edge of the pool. I stepped off and sank. Mommy was right there though to pull me out. I only cried a little bit.

I got another bruise on my head on the other side when I dived off the raft into the canoe. I didn’t realise that someone would help me to step into the canoe, and I was so used to diving off the raft into the water I thought it would be the same. I was very sore and I cried.
I had fun on holiday. I miss having lots of people around to play with, but I’m glad to be home with my TV and my toys. I missed watching TV a lot.

Mommy says I’ve learnt to kick very nicely. I have a ring with spiders on it that I swim with. I also have special orange arm bands that I can swim with. I prefer my ring to the arm bands because I feel safer, but today I swam with just the armbands and it was better cos I could use my arms more. Daddy was jumping into the pool with me with just my armbands on. That was a lot of fun cos if I had my ring I wouldn’t have been able to hold his hand.

On Wednesday night we went to swim at Simon and Heather’s house. They are my godparents. We also had supper with them. I had a whole bowl of rice with orange sauce, and then another half a bowl, which also had some chicken mixed in. Mommy and Daddy were very surprised by this because I don’t eat proper food at home. I eat proper food at nursery, but only because all the other kids do. But I decided to eat proper food because Simon and Heather were also eating. They have nice kitties I like to play with.

Now it’s time for me to go to bed. I don’t like going to bed. Every night I ask Mommy or Daddy to ’sleep me’, because I don’t like falling asleep when everything is different. Things are different now because I’m still getting used to sleeping in a big girl’s bed, and we’ve been away on holiday for AGES. Maybe Mommy will ’sleep me’ tonight.
